About Us

The Dork Files was created in 2017 with a goal of empowering dorks, nerds, and frankly, mostly me to voice my love of all things that fall under your typical San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) genres – film, television, super hero culture, etc. But life and the pandemic got in the way of really spending time on it.

Fast forward to 2024 and I’m now rededicating some of my time to this venture as a way to hopefully bring more light to topics that inspire me. That includes a recent and hopefully permanent trend to greater representation of “our” (AAPI) faces and stories in traditional pop culture.

What is “our”? Well, if I go back to the inspiration of SDCC, I’m always inspired by the number of people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientation, etc. who lean into their true selves and express their love of what makes them happy. I’m personally Asian American and so for me, seeing our stories so much more on the screen is empowering.

The Dork Files is meant to be fun, but hopefully occasionally you’ll be inspired as well.

About Me:

This is only my non-paying side hustle. In reality, I have another identity in which I spend most of my time helping to commercialize cancer therapies for patients in need. These interests and worlds of mine rarely collide. But when I take off my business suit, I am just passionate about representation in pop culture. Don’t worry, I’m not preachy and I like a good All-American “Top Gun” movie just as much as a movie like “Everything, Everywhere All At Once”. I’m just particularly inspired to know that perhaps my children will grow up in a world where they get to see their faces, their stories and their struggles on screen.

I’m not a professional influencer or journalist but I grew up writing a lot and seriously considered a career along that path. For now, I freelance for a great website, AwardsFocus.com, co-founded by Byron Burton, a long time television writer and critic.

Also, I like to collect things. I guess this is also part of comic con culture. And I am easily starstruck so I’ll occasionally share photos of my encounters.
